The intense debate over potential taxation changes to superannuation needs to be pared back, with a peak superannuation body calling for industry and policymakers to focus on the facts around the issues. ASFA yesterday urged industry to concentrate on ensuring the country had a sustainable superannuation system that delivered Australians adequate retirement income. “With growing account balances and an ageing population, there’s no doubt this may involve some changes to the system in the future, but it’s important these decisions are made based on facts and not fiction, particularly given they have the potential to impact many Australians,” ASFA chief executive Pauline Vamos said.
